In celebration of Bliain na Gaeilge 2018, Foras na Gaeilge has made the New English-Irish Dictionary app completely free. You can download it here for Apple devices and Android devices.
Already purchased the app?
If you bought the app before it became free, any in-app purchases will now be available at no cost. The app recognizes you as a prior purchaser, so you won’t be charged again when tapping the ‘buy’ button.
Using the App
Can I use the app offline?
Yes! After installation, all features are accessible offline except the sound files, which require an internet connection. You can use the dictionary anywhere, even without internet access.
Updates to the Dictionary
When new entries are added or existing ones updated, you’ll automatically receive a notification to download the latest version of the app—at no extra cost.
Searching for words or phrases
Use the search box just like on the website, or choose from the dropdown list.
Searching with wildcards
The app allows wildcard searches using an asterisk (*). Type at least two characters followed by * to find matching entries. For example:
abl*→ all words starting with “abl”be*nt→ all words starting with “be” and ending with “nt”

- Recent Searches: Quickly access words or phrases you’ve recently looked up.
Terms and Conditions
All rights to the New English-Irish Dictionary (NEID) and the app are reserved by Foras na Gaeilge. You may not publish, reproduce, or exploit any part of NEID in print, electronic form, or commercially, except as allowed under copyright law. Written permission from Foras na Gaeilge is required for any reproduction or distribution of copyrighted content.
Information Collection and Use

Log Information

Children’s Privacy
